1885-1890.
Plymouth College (1890 1895)
Articled to Mr. W.W.Rickeard, Solicitor, Plymouth (1895-1900) Also with Gribble Oddie. Sinclair and Johnson, 38 Bedofrd Row, W.C. Solicitors, for 4 or 5 months at the beginning of 1900.
Was admitted a solicitorof Supreme Court of Judicature in England in May 1900.
After my admission as above I joined Mr. Rickeard as a junior partner and remained with him until the end of 1901 when partnership was dissolved as there was not enough work for two of us. Early in 1902 1 obtained the post of Solicitor Managing Clerk to Messra, W.J.Hill and Son, an old established firm of solicitors in Langport, Somerset, where I remained until the middle of 1904. Working single handed most of the time as my principal developed Bright's disease and was away at various Spas seeking relief, in 1904 he sold half his practice to a relative and as he was somewhat better, thought there was no room for me and dispensed with my services. In the next year I was appointed to Hong Kong.
